i’m really grateful for bighit for giving us bon voyage. the last episode really drove home what the point of the series was. like what the goal was for both the boys and the fans.

  • it was to give the boys a sense of normality, because even though there were cameras and stuff, they still got to experience a lot of things that friends going around traveling would do. they’ve talked about going on trips with each other so many times in the past and it was impossible with their schedules, and their free time going to rest and spending time with family. so bighit gave it to them. there were cameras, but we got around an hour of footage per day, which is only 1 out of the 24. BTS got to experience being irresponsible young adults making mistakes as they traveled. they were happy. they were sad. they made mistakes. they were embarrassed. and they got to spend some quality time with each other.
  • it was to keep them humble, and grateful. BTS became so successful over the past two years, with HYYH catapulting them to international stardom. they’re so young, so it’s totally possible that could go to their heads. the segment where Bang PD and manager Sejin gave them letters drove home the point that their success doesn’t belong to them alone, that there were hundreds of people working behind them and supporting them, and to never forget to be grateful for them. the boys are always grateful for their staff, but there can never be too much reminding. when you’re that successful, it’s easy to think that the world owes you something, but with bon voyage and having the boys travel without managerial help, it taught BTS that they would be struggling still without the people helping them, and that they owe all of the staff a thank you for getting them there. it also showed fans just how important managers were, and how much the staff do for our boys. even the prod team/director were given time in the spotlight during the episodes.

namjoon really spelled it out when he thanked all of the staff in his little segment, even going so far as to mention the staff of broadcasts that none of them even know the names of: “I think the most important thing is to not take for granted the things we expect. with their success, they could start expecting all the good things: the music show wins, the articles in international publications, the filled up stadiums. but as namjoon said, they will remain grateful even for the smallest of victories, the smallest of successes, because every small thing is the product of hundreds of people’s hard work, and millions of fans’ support.
